One of the core functions of our state government is to ensure the safety, efficiency and dependability of our transportation systems.  Unfortunately due to the current situation regarding inaction in funding the Transportation Trust Fund, this core function is not only at risk today, but that risk is getting worse each and every day we continue to delay.

We are pleased to share the news that 1,300 Registered Nurses, represented by HPAE, have ratified new three-year contracts at four South Jersey hospitals in the Inspira Health Network. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO congratulates our brothers and sisters on a victory that will raise the standard of hospital care in New Jersey and ensure that all patients receive top quality care from the best qualified health service professionals.

Urge Nabisco/Mondelēz International to Keep Bakery Production in the U.S.

Worldwide cookie maker Nabisco and its parent company, Mondelēz International, have chosen to outsource 600 bakery jobs from Chicago to Salinas, Mexico, and to invest millions of dollars in workers and infrastructure across the border instead of at home. This short-sighted decision abandons America, destroys a community that depends on Nabisco for jobs and rejects the experienced workforce represented by Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM).

Harrah’s Resort offers a state-of-the-art Convention Center that could provide an excellent venue for your conferences and other engagements in Atlantic City. It is unfortunate however that the audio/visual staff at Harrah’s are non-union workers, employed by a contractor called Encore. Therefore, we encourage you to hire an outside union vendor to service your event before booking. The facility itself was constructed union and the majority of Harrah’s workers, with the exception of the dealers, are union.

America’s birthday is a good time to reflect on the many rights and freedoms that we in America enjoy and commit to keeping good jobs in our great country by buying American-made products and supporting union businesses whenever possible.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is pleased to announce a tremendous organizing victory by our affiliate Health Professionals & Allied Employees (HPAE) and the 120 addiction treatment workers who voted overwhelmingly to join the union.

By a vote of nearly 5 to 1, the workers at Sunrise House, a 110-bed substance abuse treatment center in northern New Jersey, voted to join the state’s largest union of healthcare professionals. The workers filed for the election with the National Labor Relations Board after raising concerns for the health and safety of workers and patients at the facility.
