Workers at Colonnade Apartments in Newark voted unanimously for union representation with RWDSU Local 108. The 15 workers, who will make up the bargaining unit, decided to form a union in order to address concerns related to low pay, health and safety, respect on the job, working hours, and the lack of retirement benefits.

Presidential Race Too Close to Call, Labor Victories in New Jersey
With the presidential race too close to call, we are proud that New Jersey was once again a bright spot for the nation thanks to the solidarity and determination of our union brothers and sisters. Labor reelected our union brother Donald Norcross from IBEW 351 to Congress and paved the way to a victory in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District by electing Joshua Gottheimer. We were also proud to elect five of our labor candidates to our state’s county Freeholder boards.

Sweeney and Labor Officials Announce “Buy America” Initiative, Assembly Committees Advance Pro-Worker Bills
Today in Trenton, the voice of New Jersey’s working families was heard loud and clear. New Jersey State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech and Secretary-Treasurer Laurel Brennan joined with Senate President Stephen Sweeney and labor officials to announce a vitally important “Buy America” initiative that would create much needed jobs in New Jersey.

The nominations process for selecting Trustees to serve on the PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) Board is currently underway. It is imperative that every eligible public employee participates in order to ensure a secure retirement future.
There are a total of three seats up this election cycle: one state, one county, and one municipal. The Public Employee Committee (PEC) of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO unanimously endorsed the below candidates for re-election to the PERS Board based upon their excellent representation to date and the fact they are active union members.
