As we commemorate Martin Luther King Day, we are reminded not only of Dr. King’s historic achievements in terms of civil rights, but also recognize his deep commitment to workers’ rights. In 1968, Dr. King went to Memphis, TN to stand with African American sanitation workers fighting for their right to a voice on the job.

Tax Scam Sent to Trump After Senate Vote
The U.S. Senate passed the GOP tax scam by a party line vote of 51-48 and it’s no surprise that such a deceptive bill had to be passed in the middle of the night. The public realizes that this bill amounts to welfare for the rich and a tax increase for everyone else.

Our election success this year showed the power of our collective voice. By shopping union, we can likewise show the power of our collective wallets. With every purchase of union-made goods, we aren’t just supporting good-paying union jobs, we are also helping to raise compensation standards for all workers.
House Roll Call Vote on Tax Bill
The GOP tax scam was passed by the U.S. House today, 227-203, however the reconciled bill must still be voted on in the U.S. Senate before reaching the president’s desk. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO strongly condemns this outcome that amounts to welfare for the rich at the expense of working families.
