Earned Sick Leave Released from Assembly Labor Committee
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO was proud to join with many of our affiliates and coalition partners to continue our long-term advocacy to enact an earned sick leave law that benefits all working families in New Jersey. We commend and thank Assembly members Lampitt and Mukherji, the prime sponsors of this legislation (A-1827), for their tireless efforts in support of the bill and Assembly Labor Committee Chair Joseph Egan for posting the bill for a hearing. We further praise all those committee members for their votes to advance this essential measure.
Robert C. Sweeney, Lifelong Trade Unionist and Champion of Labor
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Robert C. Sweeney, former President & Business Manager of Iron Workers 399 and the father of Senate President Stephen Sweeney and New Jersey State AFL-CIO Vice President Richard Sweeney.
CWA Members on Strike at Frontier Communications
There are 1,400 of our CWA brothers and sisters currently out on strike at Frontier Communications, a company that offers telecom services in 29 states around the country, including New York and Pennsylvania. While New Jersey is not an operational territory, we wanted to make sure that our members, who may live in neighboring states are aware of the strike, and we urge all to stand strong with our brothers and sisters on the picket lines.
Testify in Support of Earned Sick Leave
Thanks to the hard work of our affiliates and coalition partners, it was announced that earned sick time legislation (A-1827: Lampitt / Mukherji) is scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Labor Committee on Monday, March 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in Committee Room 15 of the State House Annex. Assembly members Lampitt and Mukherji have been passionate advocates of this legislation, and we thank them for their leadership on this issue.
