The Public Employee Committee of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO unanimously voted to nominate Carey Brown and Tracy Smith to serve as Trustees on the NJ PERS Board. However, our endorsed candidates have yet to gather the petition signatures necessary to qualify for their elections.

A New Jersey Appellate Court ruled on New Year’s Eve that the Christie administration had no power to impose higher prescription drug copayments for public-sector retirees.

On behalf of the one million members of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, we applaud Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Mayors Steven Fulop of Jersey City, Brian Stack of Union City and Dawn Zimmer of Hoboken for their immediate, clear and vocal opposition to a proposal to privatize PATH service.

As 2014 draws to a close, we pause to reflect on the year’s trials and triumphs. Though New Jersey’s labor movement faces many budgetary, legislative and political challenges, we remain committed to pursuing a progressive legislative agenda that benefits all working families.

Our solidarity and strength helped us achieve some noteworthy successes in a difficult environment. We pulled together early in the year to draft a unified plan to address pressing labor issues and extend our reach directly into our communities. Our Strategic Planning Committee deserves credit for crafting a road map to guide the State Federation, its Central Labor Councils, affiliated unions and community partners to meet the tests ahead.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is proud to welcome 430 registered nurses at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville who voted to join the United Steelworkers (USW).
