Success! The biggest gathering of future labor leaders in the country happened March 19-22 in Chicago, with New Jersey’s delegation of State AFL-CIO executive officers and young workers from affiliated unions called upon to play key roles in the Next Up Summit.
The summit brought together more than 1,000 young workers from across the country. The participants, who represent the future of the labor movement, experienced an energizing mix of leadership development, labor education, mentoring and networking.

Starting Friday, taxi riders in Newark can enjoy the convenience of using a cell phone app to book a cab and the security of knowing the dispatched driver is licensed and insured, and that the vehicle they are about to get into has been inspected and regularly maintained.
The Transunion Car Service www.ridetcs.com is a joint venture of CWA 1039 and the United Transportation Alliance (UTA), a new affiliate of CWA 1039 and the New Jersey State AFL-CIO that is already 300 members strong.
NJ House Democrats Joined by LoBiondo, Smith in Standing Up for Workers' Rights
Today in the House of Representatives, a Republican resolution undermining fair labor union elections and rolling back decades of workers’ rights protections was approved by a partisan vote of 232-186. All 183 House Democrats present voted no.
New Jersey’s House Democrats were led by Rep. Frank Pallone. Reps. Bill Pascrell, Albio Sires, Donald Norcross and Bonnie Watson Coleman also voted no. The Democrats present were joined by Republican Reps. Frank LoBiondo and Chris Smith, who were two of the three Republicans in the entire House to vote against this resolution.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is asking you to support our UNITE HERE 54 brothers and sisters, who have been negotiating in good faith and whose employer recently cut health care coverage for the workers.
We were recently notified by UNITE HERE 54 that the owner of the Wyndham Garden Hotel near the state Capitol in Trenton abruptly changed the conditions of employment for 53 employees four weeks ago.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO Women in Leadership Development (WILD) conference remains at the forefront of innovation, economic empowerment, and promoting union solidarity.
