The addition of a new online resource page on the New Jersey State AFL-CIO website makes it easier than ever for union members to identify and learn about the candidates which their unions have endorsed for the upcoming election.

Dozens of union leaders joined together this morning for a special breakfast in support of 3rd District Congressional Candidate Aimee Belgard, who was endorsed by the 1 million-member New Jersey State AFL-CIO in June. Today’s breakfast was sponsored by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, the Burlington County Central Labor Council, the Monmouth/Ocean Central Labor Council, and the International Longshoremen's Association.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO has filed a complaint with the State Ethics Commission calling for an investigation into lucrative pension fund management contracts awarded to top political donors to Gov. Chris Christie and the Republican Party.

The labor movement is counting on you to ensure that we elect Cory Booker to the U.S. Senate, all endorsed Congressional candidates, 39 rank-and-file labor candidates on Tuesday, November 4th.   Every affiliated union is strongly encouraged to provide volunteers for labor walks between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon as listed below.

Students and college graduates across the country are suffocating with massive levels of debt and millions more find themselves on a similar crash course. It seems to be only a matter of time before something snaps. Student debt is driven in large part to rising college tuition rates, but this is far from the whole story. Government lending practices are out-of-date and are ripe for improvement.

New Jersey State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech issued the following statement on the seventh downgrade of NJ’s debt under Gov. Chris Christie:

“The governor’s visits to Mexico last week and to Camden today show he’ll do anything to avoid responsibility for New Jersey’s severe fiscal problems. In again downgrading New Jersey’s bond rating, Fitch Ratings noted that Christie undercut his own reforms by refusing to make the full pension payment required by the law he signed. It will cost taxpayers more to repay bonds used to build schools and roads. As the state’s fiscal steward-in-chief, Christie has failed New Jersey taxpayers.”
