Southern NJ Building Trades Council Demands Skilled Union Labor for Cherry Hill Construction Project

We encourage all affiliates to demonstrate solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Southern New Jersey Building Trades Council by joining s picket line to demand that the University of Pennsylvania hire union labor to complete a $50-60 million construction project of a medical center and doctors’ offices along Route 70 in Cherry Hill. The pickets began Monday and will be ongoing, from 7:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday until this dispute is resolved.

Workers United Local 1528's New Contract a Victory for Working Families

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is pleased to report that Workers United Local 1528 has ratified a new contract on behalf of up to 80 hourly employees at Nitta Casings in Bridgewater. The new three-year contract includes a wage increase for workers and keeps their benefits intact.

Labor Walk App Makes a Big Impression among Union Volunteers

Union volunteers who were introduced to app-based labor walk packets for the first time on Saturday returned from the labor walk hugely enthusiastic about the new technology. The feedback from the volunteers who offered to download and use the app was overwhelmingly positive. They said it was easy and fun to use, and more efficient than the traditional paper packets because it allows more union households to be reached in a shorter period of time.

Special thanks to the Bergen County CLC for piloting this exciting new digital technology.

Nurses Union to Issue Strike Notice Unless Talks Advance

The next two days of contract talks are critical for nurses at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point (formerly Shore Memorial Hospital). The Shore Nurses Union/NYSNA announced that without significant progress in negotiations that have dragged on for nearly a year, a 10-day strike notice is imminent. As a result, nurses could be on the picket line as early as the first week of October as they fight for quality patient care for South Jersey residents.
