NJ AFL-CIO Announces 2015 Candidate Endorsements

Affiliated unions make NJ labor history by delegating dozens of young workers to participate in the annual endorsement conference

ATLANTIC CITY – More than 600 delegates representing 1,000 labor unions and 1 million members of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO convened at Caesars Atlantic City June 16 & 17, 2015, to participate in the endorsement process for one New Jersey Senate seat, 80 state Assembly seats and for a slate of 48 rank-and-file union members seeking public offices at every level of government.

The New Jersey Labor Movement has built the best Labor Candidates Program in the country. Rank-and-file union members have won 817 elections and now represent working families in public offices within the State Senate and Assembly, on County Freeholder Boards, in our towns as Mayors, Aldermen, Committee and Council Members, Fire Commissioners, and on School Boards across the state.

Your hard work paid off bigtime on Election Day with impressive wins for New Jersey State AFL-CIO labor-endorsed candidates at every level of government. Despite some disappointing results across the nation, New Jersey was a beacon of hope, winning important Election Day victories on the federal, state and local level. Thanks to the vigilance of labor volunteers, union brother Donald Norcross, IBEW Local 351, and Bonnie Watson Coleman, the first African-American woman to represent New Jersey, were elected to Congress, and Sen. Cory Booker was elected to his first full term as a U.S. Senator.

The labor movement is counting on you to ensure that we elect Cory Booker to the U.S. Senate, all endorsed Congressional candidates and 42 rank-and-file labor candidates. Every affiliated union is strongly encouraged to provide volunteers for labor walks each Saturday  between 9:00 am – 12:00 noon leading up to November 4th.
