As we approach the election final stretch, we need to make sure our voices are heard loud and clear. A great time to do this is when the candidates themselves join for our labor walks. That will be the case this Saturday, October 28, 2017, in Edison, NJ where we will welcome labor’s endorsed slate of candidates from Legislative District 19, State Senator Joe Vitale, Assemblyman Craig Coughlin, and Yvonne Lopez.

There are only 17 days left until the election. If we need any proof that elections have consequences, look no further than our national politics. The last thing New Jersey needs is another four years of Christie’s failed policies. So, as we look towards the future, we must realize that our direction depends on the choices we make. However, those choices involve more than just pulling a lever on Election Day.

There are 24 days left before the election. This is great news for those of us who would like to break away from the embarrassment of the Christie/Trump agenda. This election carries enormous potential because it can serve as a strong contrast to the anti-worker policies that have pervaded our nation and stifled the middle class.

Reliable information is hard to come by these days, which makes opportunities to hear from the candidates themselves all the more important. This year’s governor’s race is about choosing the candidates who will fight for New Jersey’s middle class and reenergize our economy.

Remember what happened last year when we thought we could simply coast to victory? Obviously, the story did not have a happy ending. But one thing was clear: all of us vowed never to let that happen again.

Election Day is less than a month away, and working families need to make their voice heard. Therefore, we need everyone to make sure they are registered to vote. The deadline to do so is Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

We are 31 days out from Election Day, and the strong support we have seen from unions underscore the importance of this election. This weekend alone, 1,079 union members knocked on 37,765 doors, helping to get the word out to our brothers and sisters about the candidates who represent our values.

New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act

Please urge your members and their families to vote YES on ballot question #1 on Election Day.  The question seeks to dedicate $125 million in aggregate to construct, upgrade and modernize public libraries.  Local governments that apply for the grants would be required to provide matching funds.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO welcomes our affiliates to join us in Newark to show support for our endorsed gubernatorial candidate, Phil Murphy, who will face off against Kim Guadagno in the first of two scheduled debates on October 10th at 7:00 p.m. at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

This week we celebrated Labor Day, recognizing the achievements of working people across the country. Now, with only 61 days until Election Day, it’s time for us to get to work on our Labor 2017 program.
