The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is proud to commemorate Women’s History Month by honoring the past and fighting for our future. Looking back on the historic struggles and triumphs of women is a valuable reminder that we have overcome adversity before and will continue to overcome our present day challenges, whatever they may be.
Whether we are fighting to close the pay gap, defend women’s health care, end violence against women, or ensure greater representation of women in public and private sector leadership positions, remembering the strength and solidarity of our forebears will help to drive us forward.
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is dedicated to empowering women, and we are proud to host, in conjunction with Women’s History Month, the 14th Annual Women in Leadership Development (WILD) Conference at the East Brunswick Hilton from March 3-4, 2017. Participants will develop the tools needed to combat the anti-worker, anti-women agenda and learn how to become leaders in their unions, workplaces, and daily lives. CLICK HERE for details.
While we celebrate Women’s History Month in March, we realize that the fight for justice continues year-round and spans generations. The movie “Hidden Figures” tells the true story of three African-American women who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. One lesson we can learn from this story is that while our work may at times be hidden, we can still make a difference. The important part is dedicating ourselves to what we believe in. The path forward won’t always be easy, but our commitment to justice can and will change the world.
