Board of Education Election Victories

In a handful of communities voters went to the polls on Wednesday, April 16, 2013, to elect members of their Board of Education.  School Boards establish local policy, award construction contracts, establish PLA’s and also act on issues related to employee contracts.  These issues are of particular interest to New Jersey’s working families represented by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is proud of all the rank-and-file union members who seek election to public office through the Labor Candidates Program.  Working in partnership with the Central Labor Councils and all affiliated unions, 2 out of 3 union members were elected to their local school board yesterday.  Since the program’s inception, rank-and-file union members have won 731 elections to public office in New Jersey.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO congratulates these members for their election success.  Working together, the voice of working families will continue to be heard at the polls and in the halls of government.
